Hans lives atop a hill with his mother and spends his days blissfully with his best friend Gretel. As far as premise, that's about it. Naturally, each character has his or her own personality and that's what adds life to the strip. "Hans" is a relatively new comic strip, started September 17th, 2001. Its main characters (the "trio") are taken from a cartoon short I did in 2000 based on the Grimm fairy tale, "Clever Hans." Myself? I'm still getting to know them. One thing I do know -- their bonds are what will keep the strip going. It's updated thrice weekly, if my schedule permits. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. For some reason, I insist on inking and coloring them. In grayscale they look silly and in line drawing form, it seems to showcase where my drawings are lacking. I don't have access to Photoshop and am probably too stubborn to actually learn all its intricacies. Instead, I use the program that came with my scanner, Ulead iPhoto Plus (pretty good, actually) and Microsoft Paint. The setting? Yeah, at some point I was thinking Germany, c. 1697. Then maybe Germany c. 1802. Then I realized that it doesn't really matter. The time and place it takes place in probably never actually existed. There are lots of hills, people speak English, they have German names, it's not a fantasy, and there's no modern technology. Enough said. About the AuthorSomething you might notice is that while Hans is the focus of the strip, most of the supporting cast is female. Much like my life growing up was. A shrink would probably tell me that this strip is merely an attempt to relive my childhood, trying to capture the simplicity of it all; that I am Hans. Okay, maybe, but I'd like to think that I'm a wee bit smarter than that. Should you find it an entertaining or necessary notion to contact me, I hope you try via email or AIM (Screenname: "A John Moore") and not by stalking. I am actually quite opposed to stalking. |
